Custom Builder and Remodeler Council

Meets the fourth Thursday of the month from 11:30am – 1:00pm.
Open only to Custom Builder & Remodeler Council (CBRC) Members (Must be a builder, remodeler, designer or architect).
The presentation will be “Lessons on Leadership”. It will center around “Beak’s Rules”, a list of recommended leadership practices. These rules apply to effective leadership whether you a leading a group of ten or several thousand. There are stories that go with each one to emphasize it’s application.
Lieutenant General Jefferson D. Howell, Jr.

J.D. ‘Beak’ Howell is presently a Senior Research Fellow with the Lyndon B. Johnson School for Public Affairs, the University of Texas in Austin. He is teaching courses on Leadership as well as participating in Leadership training activities sponsored by the Governor’s Executive Development Program.
His qualification for teaching Leadership is based upon a lifetime of Leadership challenges and responsibilities. This includes 37 years as an Officer of Marines in which he commanded at all levels including leading infantry platoons of 50+/- Marines, a 250 Marine fighter/attack squadron, a 5,000 person aircraft group, a 15,000 person aircraft wing, and ultimately a Marine force of 80,000+ Marines and Sailors.
After retirement from the Marine Corps in 1998, he continued accepting Leadership challenges while managing a 500 person engineering contract for Science Applications International Corporation, followed in 2002 by returning to government service and becoming the Center Director for NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. He held that position for 3 ½ years, prior to coming to The University of Texas.
He has received numerous awards and decorations in recognition for his service with the Marines and NASA. In 2004 he was named the Outstanding Graduate of the University of Texas Graduate School.
