City of Austin staff releases finalized direction memo for land development code rewrite
For the past two weeks, Austin City Council has deliberated on how to direct staff on key issues during the second attempt to rewrite the city’s land development code. City staff has now aggregated the policy directions and issued an 18-page memo.
Generally speaking, the direction calls for three times the city’s housing goals. The council directed staff to place more missing middle zoning in the urban core and along the corridors, near job and transit centers. The code aims to reduce red tape to allow for more housing to come online sooner.
