Roy Spence poses with the Texas State Construction Student Association members.
HBA members joined with TAB members and the Texas State University Construction Student Association over the weekend to help build a front porch upon which residents can work toward discussing issues facing Americans in a civil manner.
“America’s Front Porch” is an idea championed by Roy Spence’s Promiseland Project. Spence was a keynote speaker at last year’s Sunbelt Builders Show in Dallas speaking about the Promiseland Project,
a long-term marketing and grassroots campaign to unleash the Power of Purpose to bridge the cultural divide in America. The first step is to create a forum – America’s Front Porch – where all kinds of people, from all walks of life, can sit together and talk and listen to one another, as neighbors.
Eight students from the CSA at Texas State University drove up from San Marcos to participate in the build. Roy Spence stopped by to greet and thank everyone who came out to build. Promiseland Project hosted an event in conjunction with Austin Community College at SxSW on Sunday night. Featuring pep talks from Mayor Steve Adler and State Representative Donna Howard, the goal was to raise awareness of skilled labor opportunities .
