HBA lends support to agricultural tax legislation and development fee legislation

Last week, the HBA registered its support for a number of bills that will lessen the tax burden on a developer when they purchase certain types of agricultural land for development.  Legislators are looking for ways to reduce the amount of back taxes owed when the use of the land is changed from agricultural to residential.

The HBA also registered its support for HB 852, which prohibits cities from calculating their development fees based on the cost of a home.  Currently, a number of cities in Dallas-Fort Worth calculate their fees this way, which unfairly impacts higher end custom homes.  Although this is not an issue in central Texas currently, it’s always possible that this model could eventually pop up.
