Rain, Rain Go Away!!
Many of HBA members are reporting the unusually wet September has caused some delays in building. The greater Austin area usually accumulates about 2.7 inches of rain each September; this year, 7.04 inches of rain fell. Recently, Wes Wiggington of Four Square Builders, and HBA CEO Emily Blair spoke on behalf of area builders to NBC Austin affiliate, KXAN News, about how the weather was impacting business.
Wes went back into his Daily Job Logs and for the month of September, they lost 30% of available work days to rain or wet ground conditions. He said “The challenge is the ripple effect that has on rescheduling our trades is significant, as they have been pushed back on other projects due to the same delays. One would assume this 30% loss in works days could grow to as much as 50%+ due to rescheduling delays.”
The rising cost of building is a major concern for our industry and rain delays do not help.
