Austin, TX, August 13, 2008// The Clarksville Community Development Corporation (CCDC) announced a major financial contribution to help in its efforts to fix their neighborhood’s nine affordable housing units that were badly damaged by hail and wind storms last May.
The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Austin contributed $10,000 towards maintaining and fixing the affordable housing properties the CCDC manages within one of Austin’s most historic neighborhoods.
“The HBA's very generous donation will go a long way towards the $25,000 we need to raise in order to make storm- related repairs to these homes,” said Clarksville CDC president Mary Reed.

The check presentation was made on Wednesday morning at one of the CCDC’s affordable housing units on West 11th street. In attendance were Austin City Council Members Randi Shade and Laura Morrison, CCDC president Mary Reed and members of the Greater Austin HBA’s leadership.
“It was a no-brainer that we would support the efforts of Council members Shade and Morrison and the CCDC,” said HBA president elect Wesley Peoples. “We would like to challenge other organizations to match our contribution, or at least do what you can, to help this important effort to retain affordable housing in our city's core.” (see how you can help Clarksville CDC properties needs). Since the late seventies the CCDC has owned and managed nine properties providing affordable housing to 13 low-income families. The organization also owns and maintains the neighborhood community center.
“This is a great example of the good that can be accomplished when communities work together,” said Council Member Randi Shade of the effort. “This is Austin at its finest.”
"CCDC and the HBA are leading by example in their commitment to preserving affordable housing in Austin. Their continued commitment will insure that people from all economics levels will have the opportunity to live and raise their families here," said Council Member Laura Morrison.
The HBA has given over $1 million since 1991 to many organizations in its commitment to help build strong communities. Some of the beneficiaries include Peoples Community Clinic, Austin Children’s Shelter, Habitat for Humanity, Children’s Hospital of Austin, Lone Star Circle of Care, Mobile Loaves and Fishes and others.
